GLOBAL SHAPERS

The Global Shapers Community, launched in 2011, is an initiative of the World Economic Forum, and is a global network of young leaders driven to make positive local impact and who share a spirit of entrepreneurship in the global public interest. The Community achieves its goals through three dimensions:

IMPACT

Local initiatives related to specific challenges or objectives identified by the local Hub and by the Global Shapers team headquartered in Geneva.

INTERACTION

Positive interaction generated inside each Hub between Shapers, between Hubs, and between the Hub and its surrounding communities, both locally and globally.

INSIGHT

The World Economic Forum provides Shapers with the knowledge and insights that enable a better understanding of global, regional, and industry agendas.

ABOUT

THE TAIPEI HUB

The Taipei hub, founded in 2012, currently represents Taiwan within the global network, and includes within its Shapers a diverse group of individuals, including entrepreneurs, community leaders, business professionals, and other active young people representing each stakeholder group of global society.

The mission of the Taipei hub is to build the most positively-impactful platform in Taiwan to connect, inspire, and empower future leaders to improve the state of Taiwan and the world.

HUB PILLARS

GENDER

Despite electing Taiwan's first female president Tsai Ing-Wen in 2016, Taiwan still has room for improvement in gender equality, especially among policies and attitudes in the workplace and on combating gender stereotypes, and for protecting equal rights for our LGBTQ community. The Global Shapers Taipei hub is leading several initiatives under this pillar, including launching HeForShe in Taiwan and organizing Lean In Taipei, and our vision is for Taiwan to become a beacon for gender equality and LQBTQ rights in Asia, if not the world.

INNOVATION & EDUCATION

Taiwan has grown its economy into a high-tech powerhouse in the past few decades, becoming a world leader in semiconductors, laptops, and other manufacturing sectors, but is now in need of becoming a world-class innovation leader and making strong inroads in various emerging industries. Besides developing new technologies and helping new businesses, another key element is attracting and growing world-class talent, which is why several Taipei Shapers are working on Jumpstart Program, a program to develop Taiwanese youth into world-class talent for emerging industries.

ENVIRONMENT
& SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability and bio-diversity remain essential sources of value as ecosystem health continues to decline globally. While Taiwan designed a world-class recycling system and maintains strong grassroots conservation networks, much remains to improve upon. Our diverse group of Taipei Global Shapers actively work on addressing climate change, promoting Sustainable Development Goals, ocean conservation, green businesses, and energy efficiency, to secure to help secure a healthier more resilient Taiwan.
